Event Description:
(1) Event Concept
A “book” is a vessel of culture, and “words” are bridges of the soul.
When students from around the world bring a beloved book into a Taiwanese home, stories meet and hearts connect.
This reading club, conducted in Chinese, invites international students to share their favorite books while engaging in dialogue. Through words, we glimpse foreign landscapes and emotions. This is a warm gathering of language practice, cultural exchange, and heartfelt connection.
(2) Event Schedule (14:00–17:00, total 3 hours)
14:00–14:20 Opening · Getting Acquainted (20 min)
・Host opens the event and introduces the concept.
・Students introduce themselves with a book title, letting words weave the first thread of connection.
Example: “My name is Mei. My book is The Little Prince, because the stars remind me of home.”
14:20–15:20 Sharing · Book Talks (60 min)
Each student briefly introduces the book they brought in Chinese:
・Title and author
・Story summary
・The passage or sentence that touched them most
15:20–16:20 Dialogue · Exchange (60 min)
Through spontaneous questions and group discussion, participants interact in Chinese:
・What does this book remind me of?
・How does it connect to my life?
・What inspiration does the book bring?
・Does it resonate with my culture or life experiences?
16:20–16:55 Gathering · Tea Break (35 min)
・Enjoy Taiwanese tea and snacks in a relaxed atmosphere.
・Encourage participants to use Chinese freely, to talk not only about books, but also about life.
16:55–17:00 Closing · Farewell Words (5 min)
Host summarizes the activity and its outcomes.
(3) Expected Outcomes
・Language Practice: Enhance Chinese speaking and listening through sharing and interaction.
・Cultural Exchange: Reading serves as a mirror, reflecting both cultural differences and common ground.
・Personal Connections: Through words and conversations, make friends and build genuine cross-cultural bonds.
Other Information:
・On the day of the event, please travel to Danqianlin Station on the Danhai Light Rail, where the homestay family will meet you.
・Host families will prepare Taiwanese specialty snacks.
・Students are encouraged to bring a snack from their hometown or a favorite treat to share.
